Indicators in Amp Impact

The Indicator object in Amp Impact tracks both Standard (or “catalog”) and Custom Indicators. These Indicators or metrics are used on Projects to measure performance. Organizations typically define their Indicators and how they relate to their results framework (or logical framework) as they roll out new initiatives (Projects, Programs, Grants, etc.).

Indicator setup controls how the Set Targets and Add Result pages behave.

This is where organizations define:

  • How often do we set indicator targets, or report on results?

  • Which areas or locations do we set targets or report results for?

  • What type of data are we collecting target and result data for?

  • How do we want to disaggregate our target and result data?

  • What validation ranges do we want to define for our target and result data?

Essentially, the Project Indicator setup will determine what users see when they enter Target and Result data.

As with Frameworks and Set Targets, Add Results pages, Amp Impact comes with two options for displaying and managing Indicator data: Visualforce and Lightning Web Component. Depending on which option your organization uses, you would need to navigate to different sections of this guide to ensure the steps outlined here corresponds with what you’ll see in your system. Check with your System Administrator if you’re unsure which option you are using.

Indicator Data Types

Amp Impact allows organizations to track different types of Indicators for their Projects:

Data Type

Number

Number of people that attended training

Numerical values (integers or decimal up to 2 places)

Percent

Percent of greenhouse gas emissions

Numerical values (integers or decimal up to 2 places)

Milestone

30 percent trees re-planted?

Yes” or “No

Currency

Amount of money spent on training

Numerical values (integers or decimal up to 2 places) . Various currencies are supported in Amp Impact and can be found in field “Reporting Currency”

Qualitative

Feedback on training session

Text inputted by the user

Picklist*

Engagement Rate of Volunteers  Options: (High, Medium, Low)

Value selected from a list of values that are predefined.

The Indicator's data type determines the values that can be set as Target or Baseline data or entered as Results.

*Admin Note: It is not possible to set Targets and report Results for Picklist indicators on the Set Targets and Add Results Visualforce pages and the Lightning Web Component needs to be used if picklist Indicators are needed. Refer to the Impact/Outcome Reporting: Customization Options section.

Indicator Result Types

Organizations often collect data from various sources and need a place to aggregate and report on all the impact data across their initiatives. The Indicator Result Types in Amp Impact allows organizations to define where the result data for Indicators come from. There are four Indicator Result Types in Amp Impact:

Result Type

Behavior on Add Results

Input

These Results need to be manually entered into the input fields.

Number of volunteers

Aggregated

These Results are aggregated from pre-existing, individual-level data stored on a Salesforce object.

Sum of program participants, aggregated from the Contact object

Calculated

These Results are calculated from source Project Indicator(s) in a mathematical formula.

Percent of population that were vaccinated calculated as:

(Number of people vaccinated/Total population)* 100

Read Only*

The Results are not editable. Results that are coming from external sources or integrations can be set as Read Only in order to prevent them from being updated by mistake.

Indicator Disaggregation

Organizations often need a way to segment Target and Result data and use Disaggregation Groups as a way to pre-define the segmentation.

Review this section on setting up Disaggregation Groups and Disaggregation Values to see the step-by-step instructions, including how disaggregation levesl can be defined separately for Target and Result data.

Connect Indicators to Framework Objectives

This is where the magic lives. Connecting your Project Indicators to your Framework Objectives allows organizations to track and report on how they are progressing towards their overall objectives, and ultimately, if they are seeing the outcomes or impact they want to see.

This section has all the details for how to connect Project Indicators and Framework Objectives.
